Questions:
1.What is your favorite art piece? It can be a painting/drawing, object, or photo.
There's no way I can pick a SINGLE art piece as my ultimate favorite. I love objects that exhibit great craftsmanship and that inspire/fascinate me. One of my favorites is a wood carving of an Indonesian mythical creature called Garuda, that I got on a visit to Bali. It's sitting on my mantle right now!
2.What are your favorite movies?
District 9, My Neighbor Totoro, Pride and Prejucide (A&E version!), Aliens, Independence Day, Lilo and Stitch, Hot Fuzz, Jurassic Park, Galaxy Quest, Iron Man....I should probably stop.
3.If you could bring a character of yours into real life existence, who would it be and why?
Hmm. I have a couple of character ideas that I would probably never design in any seriousness, but they more or less save the world. So in the interests of all humankind, I would probably choose one of them.
4.What traits you admire most in a person and seek in people?
Honesty - with themselves as much as with other people - a goofy, unapologetic sense of humor, respectfulness, thoughtfulness, optimism, and they like hugs.
5.When reading a book, what makes a book the most memorable?
Great characters, great plot, really cool world...I guess what makes books memorable to most people, haha. Though I guess I remember clever bits of world construction even if I forget other things in a given book.
6.Animes are being adapted into stage musicals. Care to opine?
Some animes are pretty campy. It could work. Unless they take themselves too seriously. Which could happen.
7.Cats or Dogs?
Dogs, and cats who behave like dogs.
8.Who is your favorite historical role model and why?
I don't have one. I'm not well versed in history in general, and, well - I'm an individual, and what I value and what's best for my life isn't going to be the same as it is for other people. I have a lot of respect for things other people have done and the way they have lived, but I have never desired to model my life on that of another single person.
9.Who is your favorite male fictional character?
I think Mal Reynolds from Firefly. He's light hearted and goofy, despite the many difficulties he's faced in life. But despite his outward behavior he stands firm on what matters to him. There's steel just beneath that humorous frosting.
10. Who is your favorite female fictional character?
It's hard to pick a single favorite - as my fiancé says, I just have a thing for kick ass heroines. For now I'll consent to bring it down to three. Alita/Gally from Battle Angel Alita/Gunnm by Yukito Kishiro, Danaerys from Song of Ice and Fire, and Scarab from Kabuki by David Mack. These women face crisis after crisis, sometimes it almost seems like life is trying to crush them under its foot, but they fight back. They don't always understand why they fight, but they always do.
11. If you could be any character from a book, film, show, play, etc., who you would be?
This is kind of like the historical role model question. I may love certain characters to bits and pieces, but they're not me. Even ones I create, who have bits of me in them, are not exactly me either. And I don't want to be anyone other than me.
12. Do you like to sing when you assume you are absolutely alone?
Yes. All the time.
